Yes, the Lyric will work with most residential multi-stage heating systems.
For conventional forced air systems such as oil and gas furnaces, the Lyric will work with any combination of:
Single stage and two stage heating systems
Single stage and two stage cooling systems
For heat pump systems, the Lyric will work with any combination of:
Single stage, two stage and three stage heating systems
Single stage and two stage cooling systems
This includes both heat pumps with electric backup systems (auxiliary or emergency heat) and heat pumps with gas backup systems.
To identify your home heating and cooling system type, click here.

The Lyric thermostat is compatible with both single stage and two stage heating systems. When configuring your Lyric, you will need to check the wiring to your thermostat to tell how many heat stages you have.
If you have a conventional forced air heating system:
  • If you only connected a wire to the W terminal on your Lyric thermostat, you have a single stage heating system and should select 1.
  • If you connected a wire to both W and W2, you have a two stage heating system and should select 2.
A dual fuel heating system combines a heat pump with a gas furnace. Many houses are equipped with heat pumps, which transfers heat from one place to another. For example, an air conditioner is a heat pump that takes the heat from the air inside your house and releases that heat into the outside air. Most heat pump systems work like an air conditioner in the summer, then can be reversed to move heat into your house during cooler months. However, heat pumps do not work well when the outside air is too cold, typically below freezing. A dual fuel system includes a gas furnace, which takes over providing heat when it gets too cold for the heat pump. Your Lyric is compatible with most dual fuel heating systems. Your Lyric app will walk you through configuring your Lyric to work with your heating system.
Here are some common ways to identify what kind of system you have: Conventional Forced Air systems often include gas or oil furnaces and central air conditioning. Air is typically blown through vents. Heat Pumps also blow air through vents. However, a heat pump system uses one outdoor unit to control both air conditioning and heating. It may also include a backup gas furnace. Radiant systems use hot water to heat the home. This may be done with baseboards, underfloor heating or radiators. If your Lyric thermostat is only controlling air conditioning in your home, select None (Cool Only).
The Lyric is fully compatible with most dual fuel heating systems, systems that combine a heat pump with a gas furnace. Your Lyric app will walk you through configuring your Lyric to work with your heating system.
The Lyric thermostat is designed to work on most low voltage heating and cooling systems, at 24 Volts. Gas and oil furnaces, heat pumps, and hot water systems are examples of these low voltage systems. The thermostat can also support multi stage systems with more than one stage of heating and cooling. The Lyric thermostat does not work for 110V or higher line voltage systems, such as electric baseboard heaters. Thick black, red or white wires connected with wire nuts running to your existing thermostat will typically mean you have a high voltage system. If your system is high voltage, we will help you find another compatible thermostat. To identify your home heating and cooling system type, click here. If your system is high voltage, we will help you find another compatible thermostat.
If you have thick wires connected with wire nuts running to your existing thermostat, you most likely have a high voltage system. Unfortunately, the Lyric thermostat will not work with these high voltage systems. If you have a high voltage system, your wires will likely be thick black, red or white wires, and your existing thermostat will often be installed on a junction box. If your system is high voltage, we will help you find another compatible thermostat.
Not necessarily. Many thermostats use different lettering to mark wiring terminals. The Lyric app provides a list of the most common markings. Please be sure you've scrolled down in the Lyric app to view the entire list of terminals. If you do not see your terminal listed, please contact the Lyric Technical Support team at 1-800-633-3991 and they will help you determine if the Lyric thermostat will work with your system.
The Lyric is a low voltage thermostat. Low voltage thermostats do not require UL (Underwriters Laboratories) approval, as the UL approval rating only applies to line voltage products.
If the wires connected to your old thermostat are braided wires, you can still use the Lyric thermostat. Follow the wiring instructions within the Lyric app to identify the appropriate terminals and insert as directed.
The Lyric is able to manage a wide range of climate control systems to maximize your comfort, including your heating and cooling systems as well as other indoor air quality (IAQ) systems, such as a whole house humidifier or dehumidifier or ventilation system. The U wire terminals are used to control indoor air quality equipment. Refer to the wiring configuration on your previous thermostat to wire your Lyric properly to your whole house humidifier or dehumidifier or your ventilation system.
In some cases, your IAQ system may be controlled by a separate panel, not by your old thermostat. If so, consult your contractor for advice on connecting that system to your Lyric. For a list of contractors trained to assist in Lyric installation and configuration, go here.
Alternatively, if you have installed the Lyric app on your mobile device, go to the home screen and tap the three vertical dots icon in the upper right hand corner. Tap "Contractor Information" and select your location for a list of local approved contractors.
Lyric uses one AAA Lithium battery (non-rechargable). For your convenience, a battery is included in your box.

The trim ring and wallplate are designed to snap together prior to mounting to the wall. Align the screw holes and snap the trim ring and wallplate together before screwing them to the wall. Note: The trim ring is an optional accessory that you can use to cover blemishes such as holes or gaps in the paint or wallpaper left by the old thermostat. If you choose not to use the trim ring, you can mount the Lyric thermostat directly to the wall without it.
You will only need to use the wires that were connected to the old thermostat. If you have any extra wires that were not connected to the old thermostat you will not need to connect them to your new Lyric thermostat. If your wires aren't currently connected to any terminals and you need to relabel them, you can trace the wires back to the heating or cooling equipment. That will allow you to determine the function of each wire within the system and then attach it to the appropriate terminal on your Lyric thermostat.
The trim ring is an optional accessory that you can use to cover blemishes such as holes or gaps in the paint or wallpaper left by the old thermostat. If you choose not to use the trim ring, you can mount the Lyric thermostat directly to the wall without it.
No, the terminal label letters do not stand for the color of wire that should be inserted. In fact, there is no code governing wire colors and thermostat connections. You should wire your thermostat according to the letters used to label the terminals, not the colors of the wires.
You can carefully score around the edges of your old thermostat with a sharp blade to ensure that no additional paint peels off when you remove it. In addition, you can use the trim ring included with your Lyric thermostat to cover any blemishes in the paint caused by removing the old thermostat.
The Lyric thermostat has push in wiring terminals. Firmly push each wire into the appropriate terminal until it clicks into place. Gently tug on the wire to verify it is securely held in place. You may find it easier to use needle-nose pliers to insert the wires into their appropriate terminals.
To mount your Lyric on the wall, first remove your old thermostat from the wall and ensure that you have recorded your current wiring configuration. You can find directions for safely doing so [here]. Next, decide if you wish to use the trim ring to cover blemishes on the wall left by the old thermostat. If you do, align the screw holes and snap the trim ring and wallplate together. Now you're ready to install the Lyric!
  1. Thread the wires through the hole in the center of the wallplate and mount the wallplate to the wall, ensuring that it's level by confirming that the bubble of the self-contained level is between the two lines.

The easy way to dispose of mercury thermostats. Visit http://www.thermostat-recycle.org today.
Thermostats come with many different wiring methods. Most often, the wires will be held in place with a small screw. You may find it helpful to have a small Phillips head screwdriver and small regular screwdriver handy to remove the wires from the old thermostat. Some thermostats also use push in terminals which have a release button that needs to be pressed gently with a ballpoint pen or small screwdriver to release the wire. Remember to take a picture of your old wire configuration in your existing thermostat's wallplate before removing any wires. You'll need to record that configuration in your Lyric app so you know how to properly wire your Lyric thermostat.
Often, the thermostat will separate from the wallplate with moderate pressure. Other times, there might be small screws holding the device in place. If you are unable to pull it off, please refer to your thermostat manufacturer's website or manual for removal instructions. NOTE: Do not place your old thermostat in the trash if it contains mercury in a sealed tube. Contact the Thermostat Recycling Corporation at http://www.thermostat-recycle.org/ or 1-800-238-8192 for information on how and where to properly and safely dispose of your old thermostat.

When you first restore power to your Lyric thermostat, the thermostat will take up to three minutes to start up. During this start up period your Lyric display will light up in circles as it advances through its initial power up. When the thermostat is done it will display a unique network name, for example, Lyric Stat 03. When you see the unique network name, touch "OK" to begin your thermostat configuration. If your Lyric thermostat screen goes dark after three minutes, approach the Lyric and wave your hand in front of it to wake it up and continue configuration. If the screen remains dark, click here for more information.

If the color of a wire does not match the color displayed next to the letter of the terminal you have selected in the Lyric app, simply touch the color selected and a menu of colors will be provided. Then select the color that matches the wire you have in your system. Note that the terminal label does not stand for the wire color.
To be certain you have cut power to your thermostat, switch both circuit breakers to off. Then, confirm that the power is off by increasing or decreasing the temperature on your thermostat and waiting five minutes. If during that time you either hear or feel your system turning on, you have not successfully cut the power to your thermostat.

Note: Many of today’s digital thermostats are battery powered, which makes it difficult to tell if the power is off. Listen to ensure your system is turned off before continuing.

If the optional trim ring packaged with Lyric is not big enough to cover the blemishes left by your old thermostat, a larger trim ring is available. Please contact your local heating and cooling contractor to purchase one.
If you have long wires coming out of your wall, you will need to gently push any excess wire back into the hole in the wall.
Wiring terminals are where the wires from your heating and cooling system connect to your thermostat. The Lyric thermostat uses push in wiring terminals.
In the box you will find the Lyric thermostat, wallplate, optional trim ring, two screws for mounting, wall anchors and a Quick Start Guide.
The C wire originates from your heating/cooling system and provides 24 volt power to your Lyric. "C" stands for common and there is no universal color used to designate this type of wire. If you do not have a C wire, your Lyric will instead draw power from your heating and cooling systems to power its battery.
The Lyric thermostat is designed to install easily with minimal tools. Have the following tools available: Phillips screwdriver, small flat head screwdriver and a ballpoint pen. You may also need include a needle nose pliers, wire stripper, drill and a 7/32" - 1/4" drill bit. Lastly, to connect your Lyric thermostat and access via the mobile app, you will need your Wi-Fi network password.
Taking a picture of the old wiring will allow you to remember how your old thermostat was wired. This will help you connect all the wires to the appropriate terminals when wiring your new Lyric thermostat.
The bubble level enables you to easily ensure that the Lyric is mounted level on the wall. The Lyric does not need to be level to operate; this is for aesthetic purposes only.
The range or distance of the Wi-Fi signal is determined by your router. Check your router's manual for additional information. It is possible that your thermostat is unable to find or maintain reliable connectivity to your Wi-Fi network because of a poor signal from the router. For example, most homes have “dead spots” where Wi-Fi signals are unreliable. Since the Lyric thermostat is fixed to the wall, this problem can be corrected by moving your router to a better location or by setting up a repeater - a device that will pick up and rebroadcast the wireless signal from your router to your thermostat. You can either purchase and install a Wi-Fi repeater, or configure an additional router to serve as a repeater. Most standard routers can be configured as a repeater.
When first installed, your Lyric's display should light up in a circle as it starts up and charges. This will take up to 3 minutes.
My Lyric's display is not lighting up at all
1. Reference your photo and documentation of your previous thermostat's wiring and confirm that there weren't any errors in your Lyric wiring.

2. Confirm that the provided AAA Lithium battery is still installed in your Lyric.

Additional troubleshooting:
  • Confirm that your wires are properly labeled. You can trace the wires back to the heating and cooling equipment. That will allow you to determine the function of each wire at the system and then attach it to the matching terminal on the thermostat.
  • If you have a wire in the C terminal and have a voltage meter, you could also confirm that you have the proper voltage coming to your thermostat. Lyric needs 18-30 VAC to operate. This needs to be measured between the R and C terminals.
My Lyric’s display lights up in a circle, then goes dark
The Lyric can power up using either battery power or AC power from its C wire. Once it is powered up, it will detect whether AC power is being provided through either:
  • The C wire
  • The W and/or Y wires attached to your heating and cooling systems

If only battery power is present, the Lyric may power up and then immediately go to sleep. Wave your hand in front of the Lyric’s motion sensor to wake it up, and it will indicate if AC power is not present. To fix this, confirm that your power has been turned back on at the appropriate circuit breaker and continue the setup process.

Helpful hints: Make sure your furnace door is closed, confirm the power switch on your heating/cooling system switch is on and confirm that both your heating and cooling circuit breakers are in the on position.
Some wireless routers have advanced features like guest networks. We recommend that you connect your thermostat to your home network, not a guest network. If you must connect to your guest network, you will need to unblock port 443 in the guest network firewall. Consult your router's instruction manual or manufacturer for device-specific directions.

If your home Wi-Fi network is visible in the Lyric app and you have provided the correct Wi-Fi network information, but your thermostat has not connected to your in-home Wi-Fi, you may need to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi network. First, confirm that your router is using a supported security standard. Lyric works with the following security standards:
• OPEN
• WEP_PSK
• WPA_TKIP_PSK
• WPA2_AES_PSK
• WPA2_MIXED_PSK
Second, confirm that your Wi-Fi network is compatible. All Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostats, including the Lyric thermostat, are compatible with the 2.4 GHz B, G and Mixed Wi-Fi networks. Third, some routers are incompatible with the Lyric thermostat's low-power features. To see a list of compatible routers, visit here. Note that this is not an exhaustive list of compatible routers.

In order to manage your Lyric thermostat remotely via the Lyric app, you will need to connect the Lyric thermostat to your in-home Wi-Fi network. The Configuration section of your Lyric app will guide you through this step. If your thermostat is having trouble locating your Wi-Fi network, you may want to try these troubleshooting tips:

If you live in an area with many Wi-Fi networks broadcasting in the same space, it's possible that your thermostat did not find your network on the first scan. You will need to refresh the network list by pressing the "Refresh" button on your Lyric app screen and try connecting again. If pressing "Refresh" does not work, change the channel your router is broadcasting on. Please consult your router's manual for instructions on changing the channel.

Check that your router is broadcasting the Wi-Fi signal at the appropriate Radio Frequency range. Lyric only operates in the 2.4GHz range. This is why your thermostat may not be able to see the network while your smart phone (which operates in both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz range) sees the network just fine.

Most dual-band routers can broadcast two networks, one network on the 5GHz radio and one network on the 2.4GHz radio. You will need to ensure that the 2.4GHz radio network is enabled on your router. Please consult your router's manual for instructions.

Note: If you have chosen to use a non-broadcasting SSID (network name) on your router, your network name will not appear on the Lyric Wi-Fi list. You will need to manually add your router using the "+" button at the bottom of your Lyric app screen.

If you do not wish to receive Tips and Recommendations from Honeywell related to a particular location, press the menu icon in the upper left hand corner of your Lyric app screen. Then press the gear icon next to the location you wish to modify. Select Notification Preferences. If Tips & Recommendations is set to On, tap it to turn it Off.
Tap the cloud icon to get weather information. Lyric downloads the weather forecast from the internet based on your thermostat's location, and provides the current temperature and conditions as well as a 6-hour and 12-hour forecast so that you can plan your day.

Lyric is designed to make your life easier by allowing you to set shortcuts to maximize your comfort and energy savings. A shortcut is a quick way to change your Lyric thermostat's settings:

  • When you press a button
  • At a specific time (click here)
  • When the house is empty (click here for more information)
  • When someone is at home (click here for more information)

Create a new shortcut by pressing the + button at the bottom of your Home screen in the Lyric app. Then, choose when the shortcut will trigger and what will happen when you trigger it. You can tap the gear symbol next to many of these options to see the exact impact of your shortcut on your home's heating or cooling. Once you have created one or more shortcuts, you will see them displayed at the bottom of the Home screen with details on their trigger conditions and the resulting change.

Example: To save energy while you sleep, create a shortcut for the time when you typically go to bed, directing your thermostat to make it cooler than your default settings (in winter) or warmer (in summer). You can select how many degrees warmer or cooler you would like it to be. Also consider using Eco Mode to set energy saving temperatures for when you're either heating or cooling your house. Then, create another shortcut for when you typically get up, directing your thermostat to return the temperature to your preferred Home setting. When you wake up, your house will be comfortable - and you will have saved energy overnight.

To delete a shortcut, tap on the shortcut from the home screen. Then press the trash can symbol in the upper right corner of your screen.

Fine Tune is Lyric's way of making sure that when you set your thermometer to 70 degrees, it actually feels like 70 degrees. There are many factors that play into comfort beyond the indoor temperature. For example, 70 degrees Fahrenheit with 10% humidity feels very different than 70 degrees with 90% humidity. When heating or cooling your house, Fine Tune takes into account the indoor temperature, indoor humidity and outdoor weather conditions to ensure that your home will feel like your desired temperature. This may mean that the temperature reading on your Lyric is slightly different than the reading on your old thermostat or thermometer. Fine Tune is automatically activated when you set up your thermostat. If you do not wish to use Fine Tune, you can disable it from your Lyric app. Click here for directions.
The manual away mode allows you to set specific temperatures you would like your thermostat to maintain when you are away. The automatic away mode will let your thermostat automatically optimize your away temperatures to maximize your savings without sacrificing comfort.
Lyric includes a sophisticated new way of reading temperature called Fine Tune, which keeps you comfortable by taking into consideration the indoor temperature and humidity as well as outdoor conditions. Fine Tune makes certain that when you set your home for 70 degrees, it feels like 70 degrees. Because Lyric is considering more variables, it is not uncommon for Lyric to display a different temperature than an old thermostat or digital thermometer. If you do not wish to use Fine Tune, you can disable it from your Lyric app. Click here for directions.
Yes. From the home screen of your Lyric app, tap the icon for the thermostat you'd like to adjust. Press the gear wheel in the upper right-hand corner. Tap "Advanced," then slide the Fine Tune toggle to the off position. For more information on Fine Tune, click here
To access your comfort preferences: In the Lyric app, select the location containing that thermostat from the three-line menu in the upper left hand corner, tap on the thermostat icon, then press the gear icon on the upper right hand corner of the thermostat page. This will allow you to view and adjust your Home and Away settings, fan mode, Auto Changeover preferences, brightness and sound options, and advanced options including enabling or disabling Fine Tune and Adaptive Recovery. To access your location settings, including location details, users, heating and cooling system configuration, Wi-Fi and notification preferences To access your preferences for a location, press the three-line menu icon in the upper left hand corner of the thermostat page in the Lyric app, then tap the gear icon next to the location you would like to view. To access your geofence preferences: Open the Lyric app, tap the menu icon in the top left corner, tap the location where you want to manage, and tap “Geofence Settings."
From the App
Open your Lyric app, select your thermostat name and tap the gear in the upper right. You’ll see "Home Settings" and "Away Settings" as the top two options.
Your Away settings will indicate if you’ve chosen Auto or Manual. Auto will let your thermostat automatically optimize your away temperatures to maximize your savings without sacrificing comfort. Manual will allow you to set specific temperatures you would like your thermostat to maintain when you are away. If you are in Manual mode, your cooling and heating termperatures will display in color. You can customize those temperatures by selecting the temperature you wish to change and then moving the dial.
To tell your Lyric when you will be away, press your Away shortcut, schedule a shortcut to trigger your Away setting at the time when you expect to leave the house, or configure your geofence to automatically trigger your Away setting when you reach your preset distance from home.
You can set any Away duration through the app.
For more on scheduling a shortcut, click here.
For more on configuring your geofence, click here.
From the Thermostat, You cannot configure your Away temperature settings from the thermostat.
To tell your Lyric when you will be away without using the app, press the house button on the right side of your Lyric. Then turn the thermostat until the central display shows the number of hours you expect to be away and your anticipated return time. This duration setting caps at 8 hours. The Lyric will immediately begin to adjust your home's temperature to match your Away setting. The Lyric will then manage your heating and cooling system so that your house will have returned to your preferred Home setting temperature by your preset return time.

To create a scheduled shortcut:

  1. Select the location you'd like to configure in the Lyric app.
  2. Press the “+” button at the bottom of that location's home screen to begin creating a shortcut.
  3. Set the trigger condition as "It is a specific time" and select the dates and times you’d like that to happen.
  4. Select the change you'd like to make in your temperature or fan settings.
  5. Name your shortcut for easy reference.

Example: You may want to utilize your Away or Eco Mode settings when you’re planning to be out of the house. You can use one shortcut for each event, so if you’d like to program your sleep time as 10 p.m. during the week and 11:30 p.m. on weekends, you only need to create one scheduled shortcut and modify the times for each day of the week. You could then name your shortcut “sleep” or “bedtime.”

The Lyric thermostat will gather local weather information from the internet based on your thermostat's ZIP code.
You will likely find it more convenient to have all thermostats linked to the same Lyric account. If you’ve been invited to join Lyric using an email address which differs from your existing Lyric account email address, we recommend that you ask your friend or family member to re-send their invitation to your correct address. Once the invitation is sent to your correct Lyric account email address, the new Lyric location should automatically appear in your list of locations. Open the app to begin controlling the new Lyric thermostat.

If you prefer to use a different Lyric account for each thermostat location, you will need to log in and out of your accounts to manage each location.

Your thermostat will adjust the temperature based on the most recent trigger – whether you cross your geofence boundary, manually change the temperature at the thermostat, or have a time or event based shortcut programmed. For example, if you have a shortcut that is set up to increase your temperature at 5 PM, it will trigger at that time. If shortly after, you leave your house and cross your geofence boundary, the temperature will adjust to save energy. Regardless of what triggers it, your thermostat will respond to the most recent action.

Lyric may be able to save you dozens or hundreds of dollars per year in reduced energy bills. Go to our REBATES & SPECIAL OFFERS page and enter your location into our calculator to see how much you could save.
You may also be eligible to save money immediately through mail-in rebates from your local energy company. Details about those rebates are also available on the Savings & Rebates page.
The Lyric thermostat is designed to ensure that your home reaches your preferred temperatures when you have scheduled it to. This feature, called Adaptive Recovery or Smart Response, enables the thermostat to "learn" how long your heating system and air conditioner take to reach the programmed temperature settings. It will then start the system early enough for it to reach that preferred temperature on schedule. To turn off Adaptive Recovery for a location, go to the home screen of your Lyric app and tap the icon for the thermostat you'd like to adjust. Press the gear wheel in the upper right-hand corner. Tap "Advanced," then slide the "Adaptive Recovery" toggle to the off position.

Yes, you can use geofencing and shortcuts at the same time.
No one geofence size is optimal for all situations. How far away from home do you work, play and shop from your home? Do you want your thermostat to setback when you are at work all day, but not when you run errands on the weekend?

Your geofence boundary is a starting line. When you cross the starting line and are moving away from your home, you start saving energy by setting back your thermostat automatically. Do you want this to happen when you get on the bus or when you reach the parking lot at work?

When you cross the starting line and are moving toward your home, your system starts working to make your home comfortable. Do you want this to happen when you exit the Highway or leave the grocery store parking lot?

To choose your geofence size, consider your priorities – comfort or savings.

Larger geofences will give your system more time to reach your comfort temperature when returning home. Smaller geofences will maximize potential energy savings, but may not give your system the time required to return to a comfortable temperature when returning home.

Consider - Where do you usually go when you leave your home each day? How long do you generally spend there, and how long does it take to get there and back? Some trips will be so short and so close to your home, you may want to keep your thermostat in Home mode. Others will have you away from your home long enough or at a far enough distance that you’ll want to save money by going into Away mode.

When you set your geofence size you will see a map of your neighborhood so you can visualize the size and placement of your geofence boundary. You can always come back to your settings and adjust your size any time you need to.

For help configuring or changing your geofence settings, click here.
Lyric uses your smartphone’s location services to trigger the geofencing shortcuts in your Lyric app. You will need to allow access to let Shortcuts to trigger when you cross your geofence boundary.

Geofencing is a great feature for homes with multiple people coming and going. All users must have the Lyric App installed and running (does not need to be in the foreground) on their smartphone. Each user needs to have their own Lyric account and be logged in to the App on the smartphone that comes and goes with them from the house.
Once you enable and configure geofencing for one user, all users of that thermostat location will share these same settings. Remember, the thermostat settings will change when the last person’s smartphone leaves the geofenced area and again, when the first smartphone returns to the geofenced area.
Do not share the same account across multiple users to ensure geofence triggers with each person.
For instructions on how to add users, click here.

Your smartphone determines if you’ve crossed from one side of your geofence boundary to the other. Apple and Android have unique, proprietary methods of determining when this happens. When you are logged in to the Lyric app, the Lyric service receives a notice from your smartphone that your phone crossed the boundary. Lyric is not aware of your location, just that you crossed the boundary. Often, the geofence crossing happens at a predictable spot on your commute or while you’re out and about. The exact spot, however, depends on a variety of conditions such as cell tower locations, other apps you have open on your smartphone, etc).
The Lyric app uses your smartphone’s location services to know when you cross the geofence boundary. If your phone has any connection issues or interrupted data services at that moment, it can prevent it from triggering at the proper time.
Check the following possible issues:
  • Is your app running? You need to be logged in to the Lyric app. It does not need to be in the foreground, but you need to be logged in. If you’ve restarted your phone recently, check by opening the Lyric app. Are you asked to enter your username and password? If so, you were logged out. If Lyric automatically logs you in and you can see the status of your thermostat(s), you are good to go.
  • Is your thermostat online? If your home network is down, the geofence crossing can’t be communicated to the thermostat and therefore you won’t see anything happen to your setpoints.
  • Location services: Confirm that your smartphone's location services are enabled. Use the highest accuracy mode available; battery saving modes will reduce accuracy, increasing the chance that your phone will inaccurately assess our location in relation to the geofence boundary.
  • Simultaneous voice and data: Some smartphones are unable to send and receive data while you are on a phone call. If your smartphone has this restriction, Lyric will not be able to determine your location while you are on a call and will not trigger geofencing.
  • Are you sharing the same account on multiple mobile devices? Each mobile device running the Lyric app needs to be logged in using a unique Lyric account. Sharing accounts across multiple users or multiple mobile devices can affect location service performance.
  • Low connectivity: Your smartphone may not be able to confirm its location when it crosses the geofence boundary and won’t trigger your home or away settings.

To create a geofence trigger to control your fan, you will need to create or modify a geofence shortcut.
  1. Select the location you'd like to configure in the Lyric app.
  2. Press the "+" button at the bottom of that location's home screen to begin creating a shortcut.
  3. Set the trigger condition as "Your house is empty" or "Someone is at home."
  4. Select the change you'd like to make in your fan settings by selecting "Circulate My Air" and tap the gear next to it.
  5. Select "Auto," "On," or "Circulate."

For more information about these different fan settings, click here.

The Lyric app uses your smartphone’s location services to know when you cross the geofence boundary. Your geofence will trigger only when you cross the geofence boundary. When you leave your home and travel outside of your geofence range, your system will change to Away mode. When you are returning and cross back inside your geofence boundary, your system will change to Home mode. If you have multiple users using the Lyric app, the geofence will trigger when the last person leaves the house and when the first person returns home. For instructions on how to add users to your account, click here.
Geofencing is the feature of the Lyric thermostat that allows your thermostat’s temperature to change depending on whether you’re home or away. The Lyric app uses the location of your smartphone to trigger changes in your thermostat set temperatures, adjusting your temperature when you’re leaving or returning home. When you cross your geofence boundary, Lyric can use your smartphone’s location and change your thermostat settings to your preferred Home or Away settings. Users who don’t have regular schedules can automatically save energy when you’re away while still making sure the temperature adjusting for when you return home.
A geofence is an invisible, circular boundary, around the location of your thermostat (your home).
If you have multiple users coming and going from the home, Lyric will keep things comfortable until the last person leaves and save energy until the first person returns.

Have you ever come home early from work in the winter to a cold house? Forgotten to turn down your heat before going on vacation? Paid a large energy bill because your AC was running in 90-degree weather when no one was home?

Honeywell is changing the way you think about comfort. When you enable geofencing, you use the Lyric app to define a boundary around your home. The Lyric app uses location services on your smartphone to know when you’ve entered or exited this boundary and automatically triggers the thermostat to change the temperature to a setting you define. No need to set up a complicated schedule; Lyric will respond to your ever-changing schedule. The temperature will be just as you like it. Using geofencing with your Lyric thermostat makes it simple.

Some smartphones are unable to send and receive data while you are on a phone call. If your smartphone has this restriction, Lyric will not be able to take action on your geofence crossing.
No, geofencing does not consider the location of tablets. Tablets have a tendency to stay at home when you make a trip to the grocery store. If you want us to consider tablets, let us know. We’d love the feedback.

Geofencing is automatically enabled for your location when the complete the geofencing chapter of installing your Lyric thermostat. You can choose to skip the geofencing set up if you don’t want to use that feature, or if you’d rather configure it later.

To do so, press the “No Thanks” button. You can turn geofencing on or off by tapping the menu icon in the top left corner, and then tapping the location where you want to set up a geofence. To turn it on, slide the “Geofence this Location” switch to On (green). You’ll then want to configure your Geofence Settings. Click [here] to learn how.

To turn geofencing off, slide the “Geofence this Location” switch to Off. All location-based shortcuts triggered for all users will be disabled (shown as a greyed-out Shortcut) on the Dasbhboard. The “Geofence Settings” option in the settings menu will disappear until the “Geofence this Location” setting is reverted to On.

No. The Lyric does not offer a thermostat screen lock, and all Lyric app users are always able to make changes to the thermostat's settings.
Yes. Some heating and cooling systems include a compressor. If you have a system with a compressor, cycling the system on and off too rapidly puts extra strain on its compressor, increasing wear and tear as well as the risk of damaging the system. Therefore, every time your heating or cooling system's compressor turns off, Lyric protects it by enforcing a 5 minute waiting period before it can be restarted again. This waiting period cannot be changed.
The Lyric is designed to keep your home temperature within 1 degree (a 1 degree differential) of your desired temperature. Your Lyric uses both the ambient temperature of the air and the radiant temperature of the wall it is mounted on to determine the average temperature, then rounds up or down to the closest whole degree. Although it tracks the temperature internally in real time, the display is updated only every few minutes. This provides a more comfortable, consistent temperature along with a more stable display.
To change the sound level on your Lyric thermostat, go to the Lyric app home screen for the location including the thermostat you'd like to adjust. On that home screen, tap the icon for the appropriate thermostat. Then tap the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner to access Preferences. Tap Hardware and then Sound. You can adjust the sound to be Low, Normal or Off.
The metal ring around the Lyric thermostat is a dial and can be used to change the temperature setting on the thermostat.
Your Lyric thermostat is equipped with low-power features. If it does not have AC power through its C wire, it will draw power from your heating and cooling systems to continue operating. Because this does not provide as much power, the Lyric's screen goes to sleep when not being used to conserve energy. This does not affect its operation; it will continue to control your heating and cooling systems to maintain your preferred temperature, and its settings can be changed at any time from the Lyric app. In addition, it has a proximity sensor and will wake up again as you approach so you can make changes to its settings directly. If the thermostat does not wake up when you approach, please replace the AAA Lithium battery. Gently pull the thermostat away from the wallplate, remove the battery and replace it with a new one. To tell if your Lyric has AC power, gently pull the thermostat away from the wallplate and look at your wiring. If you have a wire in the C terminal, you should have AC power and your Lyric's screen should not go blank. Confirm that your wiring is correct.
Yes, you can register and control as many Lyric thermostats as you would like with the Lyric app. These thermostats can be in any number of locations.
If you’ve moved and left your thermostat at your previous residence, you may want to delete your thermostat from the location. To delete a thermostat, go to the Lyric app home screen and tap the three-line menu icon in the upper left hand corner. Select the gear icon for the location of the thermostat you'd like to remove. Tap "Thermostats," then the name of the thermostat you would like to remove. At the bottom of this options screen, you will see an option to delete the thermostat from your Lyric app. If you would like to remove a location (all the thermostats at one street address) from your Lyric app, go to the Lyric app home screen and tap the three-line menu icon in the upper left hand corner. Select the location you'd like to update. Tap "Location Details," then "Delete Location." Note that this only removes the location from your app; other users will still have access to it. To completely delete a location, you will need to remove all users from the location and then delete the location from your app.
A friend or family member has invited you to control their Lyric thermostat from your mobile device. You will soon be able to monitor the thermostat regardless of where you are, and take advantage of features such as geofencing to ensure your comfort. Your next steps depend on whether you already have a Lyric account.
I already have a Lyric account
If you already have an email account linked to your Lyric and the invitation was sent to that email account, the new Lyric location should have automatically appeared in your list of locations. Open the app to begin controlling the new Lyric thermostat.
If you already have an email account linked to one or more Lyric locations, but the invitation was sent to a different email account, please ask your friend or family member to re-send their invitation to your existing Lyric email account. Although it is possible to create multiple Lyric accounts for multiple locations, you will likely find it more convenient to have all locations linked to the same account.
I do not have a Lyric account
To control the thermostat, you will need to download the Lyric app to your mobile device. The app is available for iOS and Android in iTunes or Google Play. Then, you will need to create a Lyric account following the instructions in the app. The thermostat location will then be automatically added to your new account.

Note: You will need to set up your account using the same email address that received the invitation to join the location. If you would like to use a different email address to set up your account, you will need to ask your friend or family member to re-send their invitation to your desired email address.
If you already have a Lyric account linked to an email account and you wish to manage your Lyric from a new email account, you will need to invite yourself to manage your locations from that new email account.

The battery should be replaced once a year with a new Lithium AAA battery (non-rechargable).
There may be a problem with your wiring or system configuration. First, check your wiring. Physically pull on each wire to confirm that it's fully seated in the terminal block. Ensure that the wire is stripped back to a minimum of 1/4 inch of exposed metal. Confirm that all wires are in the appropriate terminals based on your documentation of your previous thermostat and your installation and wiring of your Lyric thermostat. Second, check whether there is a wire in the C terminal. This terminal provides power to your Lyric. If you have a wire in the C terminal but are still experiencing excessive battery use, you will need to contact either your contractor or Lyric Technical Support at 1-800-633-3991. If you do not have a wire in the C terminal, check your heating and cooling system configuration in the Lyric app. Your Lyric will draw power from your heating and cooling systems to supplement its battery, and if its configuration does not match your system, you may experience excessive battery use. Go to your Lyric app, tap the menu button, and select the gear next to your thermostat location name. Choose Thermostats, select your thermostat name and check your Thermostat Configuration. If the configuration is not correct, tap Reconfigure Thermostat. The app will walk you through the process of fully reconfiguring your thermostat. Example: If you have only a heating system, but your Lyric is configured for a heating system and a cooling system, please adjust your configuration so the Lyric can appropriately assess its power needs.
All your settings and shortcuts are stored and managed via your Lyric app. This means that even if power to your thermostat is out, you won't have to reset anything. When power is restored, your thermostat will start operating automatically according to your preferences.
The Lyric thermostat includes a proximity sensor, so it should wake up when you approach. If the thermostat does not wake up, please replace the AAA Lithium battery. Gently pull the thermostat away from the wallplate, remove the battery and replace it with a new one.
If you have a wire in the C terminal, you should have AC power and your Lyric's screen should not go dim or blank. Confirm that your wiring is correct.

To remove your Lyric thermostat from your Wi-Fi network, press and hold the Weather icon on the thermostat for approximately 5 seconds. Then, press the the check mark to confirm that you wish to reset your Wi-Fi network.
To reset the Wi-Fi connection on the Lyric thermostat, press and hold the Weather icon on the thermostat for approximately 5 seconds. This will remove the thermostat from the Wi-Fi network and enable you to go through the Wi-Fi connection process with your new router. Your previous Lyric settings will be retained.

Open your Lyric app and select the location with the thermostat you'd like to adjust. Select your thermostat name and tap the gear in the upper right. You’ll see "Home Settings" and "Away Settings" as the top two options. Next to "Home Settings," you’ll see your chosen temperatures for cooling and/or heating, depending on your system. If you only have a heating system or a cooling system, only the temperature appropriate for that system will be displayed. You can change these by tapping "Home Settings," selecting whether you wish to change your heating temperature or cooling temperature, and then moving the dial.
The house icon lets you put your thermostat into Away mode with a touch. Away mode allows you to change your temperature settings so you don't use so much energy while no one is at home. If the house button on your thermostat is glowing green, you are currently in Away mode. Push the button to return from away mode.
If you wish to turn on Away mode:
From the Lyric app
Select your preferred location, then tap a thermostat. Tap the house to tell your Lyric how long you will be away for. You can set the Lyric to Away mode for up to 24 hours. Then hit Save to put it into Away mode. To change your Away settings, tap the gear icon from the thermostat screen, then tap Away Settings to either allow Honeywell to maximize your energy savings or to manually set your Away temperatures. These temperatures will be your Away settings until you choose to change them again.
From the thermostat
Press the house button on the right of the thermostat. This is a one-touch button to put the thermostat into its energy saving Away mode. You can turn the dial to adjust your expected time away between 1 and 8 hours; if you do not, the thermostat will default to your most recent duration Away and enter away mode.
If your Lyric thermostat either displays a no Wi-Fi icon on its screen or shows up as offline on the Lyric app, it has lost connection to the Wi-Fi network. Make sure your Wi-Fi router is powered and broadcasting. You may need to reset your home's Wi-Fi network by power cycling your router. Consult the router's instruction manual for directions on power cycling. When the Wi-Fi network has been restored, your thermostat will automatically reconnect.

No, this is a battery powered device only.

Yes, the detector will sound a 100dB alarm when the detector senses water (through the built-in sensors or through the cable sensor). However, you will not receive in-app, push, and/or email notifications without a Wi-Fi connection.

Mute the alarm using the app, unplug the cable sensor or wipe the built-in probe sensors dry (whichever sensed the leak), or remove the batteries.

Once the water leak detector detects a leak through the sensor probe or the extended cable sensor, within a minute the detector buzzes and the LED blinks red. Shortly thereafter, you should receive in-app, push and/or email notifications, depending on your settings.

MAC IDs are printed in the detector’s battery compartment. Repeat the installation steps for each detector individually.
Set up and manage your alerts and notifications in the settings in your Lyric App. Select the “Water Leak Detector” and go to the “Menu” within the Lyric App. Select the “Alert and Notifications” to set up what you want to be notified about. You can receive notifications for the following: (i) water leak; (ii) high/low temperature; and (iii) high/low humidity.
Water Leak notifications for the Honeywell Water Leak Detector may not be disabled, though you may choose your notification method.

You may choose to receive notifications in any or all of these ways:
  • In-App Alert
  • Push Notifications
  • Email Notifications

You can mute the alarm within your app. When a leak is detected, a screen pops up on your App that allows you to mute the alarm. The LED on the detector would still continue to blink red, which indicates a leak is still detected, even while the alarm is muted.

After 30 minutes, if the detector is still detecting a leak, the alarm will start again.

The detector has a built-in temperature sensor that senses temperature every hour. If the temperature goes below the set thresholds, you should be notified through in-app, push and/or email notifications, depending on your settings.

The range of distance of the Wi-Fi signal is determined by your router. Check your router’s manual for additional information.

There is no limit to the number of email accounts that can be added to receive notifications. Added email accounts will receive notifications from all devices connected to the account.

To conserve battery power, the default setting has the detector send data and update your App once a day.
You should receive in-app, push and/or email notifications, depending on your settings, when the battery level reaches approximate values of 25% remaining (just a warning), 10% remaining (urgent), and 5% (critical), you will receive an in-app, push and/or email notification, depending on your settings. The detector starts beeping once every minute after reaching roughly 5% levels to remind you to replace batteries.

If the detector misses a particular update, you will receive an email, push, and in app notification, depending on your setting, that the detector is offline.

It can take up to one minute for the alarm to sound after water is detected.

After successful installation, the LED light will turn solid green. It stays on for approximately 5 minutes and then turns off to preserve battery life.

Each detector must be enrolled through the app individually. The easiest way to enroll detectors is to enroll one at a time by inserting batteries only into the device you are ready to enroll. In the case where you have already inserted batteries for multiple detectors prior to enrollment, you will see multiple MAC IDs in the app to choose from – in that case you would need to identify which device you are enrolling by looking up the MAC ID.

Yes, the entire 4 feet cable (or 1.2 meters) sensor detects water. Additional cable sensors can be added for a maximum sensing distance of up to 500 feet or 150 meters. The cable sensors need to be connected to each other, please make sure that each cable is installed correctly. You may test each cable sensor section by inserting each cable sensor section into the Water Leak Detector separately and by pouring water on the applicable cable sensor section to test. If the cable sensor does not trigger the buzzer alarm after pouring water on the cable sensor, please contact the Lyric toll free Customer Care phone line, 1-800-633-3991.

Yes. For the best performance, it is recommended that the detector is wiped clear of any debris, dried, and the batteries are replaced before reuse.

The detector can be on the floor or hang at any height. The length of the supplied cable sensor is 4 feet (or 1.2 meters). You can attach additional cable sensors for additional coverage – up to 125 Cable Sensors connected for 500 feet or 150 meters. Water can touch any part of the cable for the alarm to sound.

Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly. If that does not correct the issue then put in new batteries. If the issue is not corrected contact the Lyric toll free Customer Care phone line, 1-800-633-3991.

The default thresholds for temperature are pre-set at 45° F or 7.5° C and at 100° F or 38° C and you may change the settings in the Lyric app. The default thresholds for humidity are pre-set at 20% and at 70% and you may change the settings in the Lyric app.

Lyric uses three AA Alkaline batteries. For your convenience, three batteries are included in your box. You can expect up to 3 years of battery life, depending on use conditions. Battery life may be shorter due to a number of factors (e.g., extreme cold or heat, multiple cable sensors, alert activity, frequency of status updates).

If you have any questions concerning this warranty, please write Honeywell Customer Care, 1985 Douglas Dr, Golden Valley, MN 55422 or call 1-800-468-1502.
